Linen: Classic Fabric, Cool Look

Don't trade staying cool for looking good this season when linen can give
you both.

"Linen's been in use for at least 10,000 years, and you can bet it's staying power stems from the fabric's ability to absorb moisture while keeping the wearer cool and comfortable," said David Simon, owner of Simon's.

Linen is made from flax, a hollow fiber that soaks up water and heat from the body, storing it in the center of the fiber without making the fabric feel wet.

Linen is not only light and comfortable, but also provides some UV protection making it perfect for a cruise down the Nile or a summer wedding on Nantucket.

For dressy engagements, pair a linen suit with a shirt and tie. Dress down a suit or linen pants by wearing a silk T-shirt.

Clothing consultant Peter Murphy recommends linen because "it's loose fitting and drapes well. Just keep in mind that linen wrinkles, and it's suppose to look that way."
